Gee Autoblog, we had noooo idea.
Here we were sitting on our hands, all awestruck and hopeful, looking forward to Mazda telling us when they’ll sell us the RX. And you just totally burst our bubble. (/sarc)
We knew this was a pipe dream. What bothers me is that this doesn’t have to be a pipe dream.
I wish Mazda would see the demand for this car just on the basis of its kick-ass design. Put another engine in it. Tune the tits out of whatever you have.
Don’t want to call it the sucessor to the RX-7 because no rotary? That’s fine by me. Make an RX-8 or whatever when you’re ready with the rotary.
In the mean time, GIB ME DIS!

I’m not a fan of wankel engines. On paper, they seem much better than piston engines, but in practice, they’re so inherently flawed. They go through oil like nobodies business, they eat away at the apex seals, you can’t start it up again right after shutting it off, they make horrible MPGs, and low-end torque is more laughable than a 4-cylinder Honda engine.
Rotaries are most efficient at low RPMs though, which would make them great for electric generators of sorts, and they’ve been proven to work decently combusting hydrogen fuel.
They have their advantages, of course, but as a stand-alone engine in a sports car? No Bueno.

I don’t disagree with you.
But I’m saying they should make this car anyway with a non-wankel engine.

Lol both posts are standard presumption-without-solid-info shitposts.
But CarScoops should know, you can buy cars before they’re built. Only way to find if we buy it is if its built first lol

Yeah, should have double checked that one. Whoops.

Who cares ..they are fun. That being said there is no place for a new rotary in the modern world. They will fade into obscurity like 2 stroke saabs and air cooled Vws and such.
